American Tobacco Campus Historic Redevelopment
Durham, North Carolina
Using the concept of smart growth and a vision to preserve a historic site on which the community of Durham was built, over one million square feet of mixed-use space on 16 acres has been redeveloped to now include an outdoor amphitheatre and public park. A monumental water feature symbolizes the backbone and heart of this revitalized campus. Spanning the length of the development, "Bull River" runs along old docks where trains once loaded tobacco. At the center campus, Bull River spills into a large, multi-level pool which provides the setting for outdoor dining, amphitheatre and rubber duck races.
