Palomar Hotel (now Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel)

Atlanta, Georgia

Vibrant Midtown Addition

Located in vibrant Midtown Atlanta, the Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel is a 207,500 SF luxury boutique hotel and is the first of its type in the Atlanta market. Formerly Hotel Palomar, this hotel was rebranded as Renaissance Atlanta Midtown. The 20-story, 304 key hotel features a street level drop-off and a fine dining signature restaurant.

With arrival located at mid-block along West Peachtree Street, entry to the hotel is a gracious two-story main lobby space with a signature fireplace as a focal element for guest enjoyment. In addition to the 150-seat signature restaurant with interior and street-level entrances, the hotel has a number of amenities including the 100-seat rooftop bar terrace (accessible via a grand staircase) overlooking West Peachtree Street, 1,100 SF fitness center, 5,000 SF ballroom, 5,000 SF of boardroom and meeting space, business center and a cocktail lounge located in the hotel lobby. The podium incorporates parking for 119 cars.

A major design challenge was overcoming the small +.9 acre urban site with limited street frontage to meet the owner’s functional requirements and the city’s requirements to create pedestrian-friendly storefronts at all street-level façades. By locating major entrances to the hotel lobby, signature restaurant, rooftop bar terrace and pre-function space at ground level, the hotel engages the street in a pedestrian-friendly and vibrant manner.

The hotel is a contemporary expression of simple massing forms broken into a two-story podium and a vertical tower. The podium houses public spaces, back-of-house areas, service functions and the parking deck. The exterior skin is a combination of a three-color earth tone articulated stucco with concentrations of curtain wall glazing that is contrasted by punched window openings. The combination of these materials and variation in scale reinforces the contemporary aesthetic and creates visual interest to the hotel’s exterior.
